Despite Criticism, The Beginning After The End (TBATE) Anime Proves Popular on Several Japanese Streaming Platforms

Despite a difficult reception with overseas audiences, The Beginning After The End (TBATE) anime proves popular on several Japanese streaming services following its premiere in early April.

Rankings reveal that TBATE is performing well in Japan on several streaming services, and notably so compared to titles far more acclaimed overseas. Hulu Japan’s weekly ranking has the series 17th of all titles, 13th for all anime, and in fact 6th for TV anime series (Blame the Detective Conan movies).

The series is similarly ranked 6th for TV series on Netflix, and 3rd when considering anime only, above The Apothecary Diaries Season 2 and Witch Watch. You can check out its rankings on several Japanese-specific streaming services below. These are all as of April 19 data.

The Beginning After The End Season 1 – Visual

The Beginning After The End Anime Weekly Popularity Rankings on Japanese Streaming Platforms (Anime):

  • Hulu Japan: 6th (17th overall)
  • Netflix (Japan): 3rd (6th overall)
  • d-anime Store: 2nd
  • TVer: 9th

@amastker on X (formerly Twitter) also revealed The Beginning After The End‘s popularity on Abema and Niconico through a combined anime ranking. The series ranked 9th in cumulative views since its first episode, above several popular anime like My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, Can a Boy-Girl Friendship Survive?, and The Shiunji Family Children. From this, you can glean that it ranks 8th on ABEMA since its premiere.

Despite releasing weekly on DMM TV three days after its fastest distribution sites, The Beginning After The End‘s second episode ranked #2 the day of its release, moving to #1 the day after (Episode 3 data isn’t out yet). While it’s naturally fallen each day since, it shows an enduring popularity, going from 1 -> 3 -> 8 -> 11 -> 17, as of April 18. In addition to its previously mentioned weekly success on d-anime Store, for the day after its release, Episode 3 was #1 on the daily rankings, #2 on U-NEXT (daily), and is currently #1 on Anime Hodai (daily, April 19), all of which have the fastest distribution.

Meanwhile, The Beginning After The End has faced vocal criticism from overseas fans, to the point that the creator, TurtleMe, addressed fans on Reddit. He asked fans to please remain respectful, and if they can, please endure and support so that it could one day improve.
