As part of the Gintama on Theater initiative celebrating the anime’s 20th anniversary, two major films from the franchise, Gintama: The Movie: The Final Chapter – Be Forever Yorozuya and Gintama: The Final, are set to receive 4DX theatrical releases in Japan. The former will debut in Summer 2025, with the latter following in the fall.
To accompany the announcement, official poster visuals and a trailer narrated by Tachiki Fumihiko (Taizo Hasegawa, aka Madao) have been released.

The enhanced screenings join the previous anniversary events under the Gintama on Theater 2D banner, which recently included theatrical cuts of the Kintama Arc, as well as the Shinsengumi Crisis and Kabukicho Four Devas arcs which released in for February 2025.
The 4DX editions of the films will aim to provide a fully immersive experience, incorporating motion seating and effects to bring Gintama’s world of samurai, aliens, and crazy comedy to life in a new way. More details are expected to be revealed closer to the premieres.
The Gintama anime began airing in 2006 and has since released 367 episodes, multiple OVAs, and several theatrical releases. The first of the upcoming reissues, Be Forever Yorozuya, originally premiered in 2013 and featured an original story by manga creator Hideaki Sorachi. It was initially marketed as the series’ conclusion.
Gintama: The Final released in 2021 and served as the definitive conclusion to the anime adaptation, adapting the manga’s final arc. The film had a strong critical and commercial reception, grossing over 1.85 billion yen (approx. USD 17 million) at the domestic box office and ranking among Japan’s highest-earning anime features of that year.
