At San Diego Comic-Con 2025, WEBTOON Entertainment revealed the opening sequence of its upcoming live-action film Omniscient Reader: The Prophecy. The film, based on the popular webcomic Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint by creators SingNSong, is set to premiere in U.S. theaters on August 1, 2025.
The film premiered in South Korea on July 23, 2025, while it was recently confirmed that it is targeting a release in as many as 113 territories.
The preview, shown to attendees during a panel discussion, featured the first five minutes of the film. In the sequence, protagonist Kim Dokja explains how he became the sole reader of the apocalyptic webnovel Three Ways to Survive in a Ruined World, which soon becomes his reality. Preview images and trailer were revealed back in June, and you can check some out below.
The panel featured Ryan Lee, Head of Content at WEBTOON; Vi Ma, who leads North American marketing for the film through 213 Pictures, and Miles Atherton, Editor at Anime By the Numbers, with the discussion moderated by Screen Rant Deputy Editor Megan Peters.
The webcomic Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint has over 2.2 billion views globally, making it one of WEBTOON’s most successful titles. The film adaptation marks the start of a planned five-film series and features a cast that includes Lee Min-ho, Ahn Hyo-seop, and BLACKPINK’s Jisoo. An anime adaptation is also currently in production.
Anime Corner had the chance to have an interview with the head of Sleepy-C, lead artist for Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint, where they discussed the path from early drawing to directing the webtoon’s art at Studio 3D2S.
