The Spanish convention franchise Japan Weekend held its Madrid two-day edition this September 2025, which marks the start of the anicon calendar in Spain. As the biggest event in the capital, it’s our chance to reunite people from across the Iberian Peninsula.
A convention is also an occasion to celebrate our passions. While the following photos are focused in the amazing cosplay variety, we had the opportunity to meet many Japanese artists. We are glad to share a small glimpse of Madrid convention world!
Roselia in the country of the paella
One of the biggest announcements was the confirmation of the Japanese singer Aina Aiba, which stirred up the BanG Dream! fandom throughout Spain.
The voice actress held concerts both days of the conventions, performing many anisongs such as Lead the Way, Yume no Hikari Kimi no Mirai, and Roselia’s memorable track Fire Bird.
And Aina Aiba even shared her excitement in her X account in Spanish!
When they cry
Japan Weekend also have the honor to present Ryukishi07, creator of the visual novel franchise Naku Koro Ni, in a Q&A panel who left no one indifferent.
Although I haven’t played the games, I was very happy to see many friends prepare their cosplays to share their excitement. The author even walked around the con meeting the fans!
Cosplay, cosplay and….cosplay!
As this section don’t need a presentation, let’s enjoy a few of the Japan Weekend Madrid cosplays. Have you ever watched one of the following anime or games before?
Gyomei Himejima (Kimetsu no Yaiba) and Sunraku (Shangri-la Frontier), both from Valencian cosplayer @gymbrotaku.
Black Goku SSJ3 and Kefla (Dragon Ball). Known for their eye-catching wigs, @xeplay_cosplay and @ranmuracos_ will represent Spain in the upcoming cosplay event Pop Culture Hiroshima in Japan.
Rena Ryugu (@hylianghoul), Keiichi Maebara (@joctorwho) and Mion Sonozaki (@sakixdaimon) from the acclaimed Higurashi When They Cry. The creator was glad to see many cosplayers from their works!
Riyo Reaper (@cocoos_play) and Enjin (@kuro.ink.cosplay) from Gachiakuta. I’m a total fan of the manga! Luckily, I discovered these cosplayers the last hours of the convention.
Kokomi Teruhashi (@lilzzsy), Saiki Kusuo (@leonbizum) and Aiura Mikoto (@cdollychan) from the comedy anime The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. Also a personal favorite, and cosplays hard to find!
Boa Hancock (@danielacalfa_cos) from One Piece and Zayne (@victor_coelho_94) from Love and Deepspace. Both cosplayers came from Portugal to visit Japan Weekend for the first time!
Yuta Togashi (@lxyem_6.6) and Rikka Takanashi (@enmmmming) from Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions. Finding Chunibyo is difficult enough, now imagine how I felt when I saw both cosplayers in the wedding costume from a memorable anime scene!
While I would love to comment in each cosplay, let’s play a gam! Can you guess the following characters from anime, videogames and more?
