The horspocalypse continues! Two years after its Japanese release, the Umamusume: Pretty Derby — Beginning of a New Era movie is finally getting its North American theatrical release! The film will stream in select, yet-to-be-announced movie theaters starting on February 27.
GAGA Corporation released an English-subbed movie trailer and visual as part of the film’s promotion. They also created an English website for the movie where fans will be able to purchase tickets.
Umamusume: Pretty Derby — Beginning of a New Era Details
A stand-alone film, Beginning of a New Era, follows the racing exploits of Jungle “Pokke” Pocket. Previously content to compete in freestyle races, everything changes for Pokke when she witnesses Fuji Kiseki’s umazing run during a Twinkle Series race. Amazed by Fuji’s performance, Pokke decides to enroll at Tracen Academy, and to her luck, Tanabe, Fuji Kiseki’s trainer, sees her potential and scouts her.
However, Pokke’s newfound dream of achieving a once-in-a-lifetime Triple Crown victory is a tall mountain to climb. Facing rivals like Dantsu Flame, Manhattan Cafe, and Agnes Tachyon, Pokke’s road to victory promises to be an arduous one.

Ken Yamamoto directed the movie. Kiyoko Yoshimura provided the script. Umamusume: Pretty Derby — Beginning of a New Era premiered in Japan on May 24, 2024. The 2025 installments of Anime Expo and Anime NYC had previously screened the film.
The Umamusume: Pretty Derby — Beginning of a New Era movie will also have a limited Thai screening on February 6, 7, and 8 at the Jamnime Festival in Bangkok. Special commemorative movie merchandise will be available at the event.
