Sony’s Aniplex has acquired fellow anime production company EGG FIRM for an undisclosed amount in a deal that sees the know-how of the team behind hit titles like Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation, DanMachi, Ruri Rocks, and Onimai head under its umbrella. EGG FIRM is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of Aniplex.

EGG FIRM says that the acquisition will not affect business operations; its president, Nobuhiro Osawa, remains in his position. They say this deal will work towards the continued development of the anime industry through the mutual collaboration and maximization of their resources. EGG FIRM has previously produced (with Straight Edge) and collaborated with the planning of Aniplex-led productions like Sword Art Online (Gun Gale Online, Alicization, Progressive).
This is the latest in the consolidation of the anime industry. As noted by entertainment journalist Murata Taisuke, depending on the ownership ratio of Studio Bind (Mushoku Tensei), a joint venture launched by EGG FIRM and WHITE FOX (recently acquired by AlphaPolis), this deal may also leave the popular anime studio as a consolidated subsidiary of Aniplex. Outside of anime production, EGG FIRM also co-operates the online store of J.C.STAFF (DanMachi), with the two companies closely collaborating on the DanMachi anime (as well as The Executioner and Her Way of Life). In 2022, J.C.STAFF executive officer (production division head) Yuji Matsukura described Osawa as “one of the producers I trust most in the anime industry.” (Akiba Souken, archived).
Mushoku Tensei Season 3 airs in July, while DanMachi fans look ahead to the anime’s major 10th anniversary event, Aedes Vesta, later this week on February 7.
