The previously announced Matsurika Kanriden anime revealed a trailer and visual along with the cast and staff. Maho Film is animating the series, slated to premiere in January 2027.
Takeshi Mori is credited as the chief director for the anime, while Yuichi Nakazawa is directing. Toko Machida is writing the series composition, Manami Inose is on character designs, and Takuro Iga is composing the music. The main voice cast consists of Rie Takahashi as Matsurika Ko and Nobunaga Shimazaki as Emperor Hakuyo.
The story follows the titular character, Matsurika, a lady-in-waiting at the imperial palace known for her excellent memory. One day, she meets the emperor, who falls in love with her, but tells her to approach him only after passing an exam.
The light novel series is written by Rinne Ishida and has been published under Kadokawa’s B’s-LOG Bunko label since July 2017. It currently has 18 volumes in circulation. There is also a manga adaptation by Waka Takase, which has been serialized in Akita Shoten’s shojo manga magazine Princess since August 2018.
