Izushiro’s fantasy light novel series The Greatest Magicmaster’s Retirement Plan is officially getting a TV anime adaptation, with the series set to premiere in 2027.
The anime revealed its first teaser visual, teaser trailer, main staff, and lead cast member. The anime will be directed by Yusuke Suzuki, known for his work on the Duel Masters franchise and This Monster Wants to Eat Me. The series composition will be handled by Juichiro Ichikawa (Jobraver, Himitsu no AiPri), while Yuki Kitajima will serve as character designer. Takatoshi Hamano is the sound director, with animation production by HOTLINE. Yuto Uemura will star as protagonist Alus Reigin, the world’s strongest magician.
The series follows Alus, the legendary mage who stands at the pinnacle of more than 100,000 magic users. Seeking a peaceful life after years of battle, he conceals his identity and enrolls in a magic academy, where he balances training the next generation of magicians with the ongoing fight against monsters. Originally published under Hobby Japan’s HJ Bunko label, The Greatest Magicmaster’s Retirement Plan has reached 20 novel volumes. The manga adaptation by Karu Yoneshiro, titled The Greatest Magicmaster’s Retirement Plan: The Alternative, concluded with 10 volumes.
The franchise will also expand with a new prequel manga, The Greatest Magicmaster’s Retirement Plan Zero: The Secret Record of the Beginning, which will depict Alus’ story before entering the Second Magic Academy. The series is scheduled to begin serialization this winter on Comic Fire.
