Takeru Hokazono’s Kagurabachi will enter a temporary hiatus beginning with Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #31, scheduled for release on June 29, according to an announcement from the series’ official X account.
In the official statement addressed, the Weekly Shonen Jump editorial team explained that Hokazono had wished to continue serialization. However, after discussions with the author, it was decided that the manga would take a break in order to ensure the series can “continue to be delivered in a stable manner” going forward.
The manga is currently expected to resume publication around August, resulting in a hiatus of approximately one month.
While no specific reason for the break was given, the series previously missed an issue of Weekly Shonen Jump in May due to Hokazono’s sudden illness. The latest announcement does not explicitly specify the reason for the upcoming hiatus, though it comes shortly after that interruption.
Kagurabachi is written and drawn by Takeru Hokazono, and it has been serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump since September 2023. Eleven volumes have been released as of May 1, 2026, and the manga has already surpassed 4 million copies. The manga won the Next Manga Award 2024 in the Print Category. VIZ Media licensed the manga in English.
The story follows the young Chihiro, who was trained by his father to become a swordsmith. After his father is murderer, Chihiro sets on a path of revenge to avenge him with yakuza and sorcerers standing against him.
The series has become one of Jump’s biggest hits in recent years. It topped the English-language rankings on Shueisha’s Manga Plus platform shortly after launch, won first place in the Comics category of the Next Manga Awards 2024, and has surpassed 4 million copies in circulation. The anime adaptation by studio Cypic is set to premiere in April 2027.
Shueisha concluded its statement by thanking readers for their continued support and asking fans to look forward to the manga’s return later this summer.
