CTW has officially launched The Apothecary Diaries Palace Chronicles, its new browser-based simulation game inspired by the popular anime and light novel franchise. The game previously exceeded 200,000 pre-registrations.
The announcement was accompanied by a special release video featuring Maomao and Jinshi, voiced by returning anime cast members Aoi Yuuki and Takeo Otsuka.
Available through the G123 platform, the game can be played on smartphones, tablets, and PCs directly through a web browser without download. Fans can play Maomao as she investigates mysteries across the Imperial Court and pleasure district, using her pharmaceutical knowledge to solve cases and progress through the story.
We recently had the chance to interview CTW CEO Ryuichi Sasaki, who talked about G123 and why browser-based gaming is still relevant. The game will be free-to-play with in-game purchases.
The game also introduces a management system at a Medical Office. Players can gather resources, upgrade facilities, and develop their own operations through item collection and strategic progression. The game also incorporates other familiar characters from the anime. Male characters including Jinshi and Gaoshun assist with herb gathering, while Xiaolan and Yinghua help expand the Medical Office through skills and item support.
As part of the launch celebration, players can obtain a UR-rarity Xiaolan character and additional rewards previously offered through the game’s pre-registration campaign.
Natsu Hyuga writes the The Apothecary Diaries light novel, with illustrations by Toko Shino. The series is serialized by Shunfunotomo. The series has 2 manga adaptations, one written by Itsuki Nanao and illustrated by Nekokurage, and one written and illustrated by Minoji Kurata.
J-Novel Club is publishing the novel in English, while Squre Enix is publishing the manga. The story follows Maomao, a young apothecary who ends up getting sold to the emperor’s palace as a lowly servant. She’s not the type of character who can just stay obedient, so she ends up helping Jinshi, the handsome official at the palace.
The anime adaptation is set to mark both 2026 and 2027 with Season 3 coming to Crunchyroll and an original new movie.
