WEBTOON Productions and French animation studio OuiDo Productions have announced that an animated adaptation of Emma Krogell’s WEBTOON series Lumine is currently in development.

The project was unveiled during the Annecy International Animation Film Market (MIFA) and marks a new international collaboration between the two companies. Based on one of WEBTOON’s most successful original English-language series, Lumine has more than 550 million views worldwide since its debut on the platform.

Set in a world where humans, witches, and weredogs coexist, Lumine follows a young weredog named Lumine who finds himself without a place to belong. His life changes after meeting Kody, an antisocial young witch with secrets of his own. What begins as an unlikely partnership gradually develops into a larger story involving family, mystery, and hidden dangers.

Originally created by Emma Krogell, the fantasy webcomic has been translated into multiple languages, including French, Spanish, German, and both Traditional and Simplified Chinese. The series has also been collected into four graphic novel volumes through WEBTOON Unscrolled and Penguin Random House.

The animated adaptation will be led by screenwriter Bryan Q. Miller (He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, Smallville), who will serve as showrunner and co-writer. He will work alongside Sandrine Nguyen and the creative team at OuiDo! Productions.

Executive producers include WEBTOON Productions President David Madden and Head of Global Animation Sydney Bright, alongside OuiDo! Productions executives Sandrine Nguyen and Boris Hertzog.

Sandrine Nguyen, CEO of OuiDo! Productions, commented:

“Lumine is exactly the kind of project we love to champion at OuiDo!: a beloved world, memorable characters, and a story with true emotional resonance. We are so excited to partner with WEBTOON Productions, whose deep understanding of creator-led franchises and global fan communities is invaluable. Having Bryan Q. Miller on board is another tremendous strength for the adaptation, bringing exceptional experience in crafting compelling character journeys. Together, we look forward to bringing Emma Krogell’s extraordinary world to animation for audiences worldwide.”

David Madden, President of WEBTOON Productions:

“WEBTOON has transformed visual storytelling, and there is an enormous opportunity for us to adapt these incredible stories into new animated TV and film projects. Fans around the world have connected with Lumine because of its incredibly lovable characters, emotional friendships, and unique blend of fantasy, humor, and mystery. At its core, it’s a story about belonging and found family wrapped in a visually imaginative world, which makes it especially exciting to bring to animation alongside OuiDo!, who brings expertise in developing animated entertainment from tentpole IP.”

The announcement follows WEBTOON Productions’ continued expansion into animation. Earlier this year, the company received a greenlight for an animated adaptation of Lore Olympus in partnership with Prime Video and The Jim Henson Company. Additional projects currently in development include GOSU with Toei Animation and Studio Mir, Eleceed with DandeLion Animation Studio, and Apocalyptic Horseplay.

No release window, cast details, or additional production information for the Lumine animated series have been announced at this time.
