The upcoming Sword Art Online: Progressive movie will be the first film to use the IMAX 12-channel sound system in Japan, the official Twitter revealed. The movie will premiere on October 30, 2021, in IMAX theatres nationwide in Japan.

What is IMAX 12-channel Sound System?
IMAX 12-channel sound is the newest sound feature of IMAX theatres. It lets the audiences experience a new kind of powerful, and more immersive sound while watching the movie. In the IMAX 12-channel sound system, the viewers won’t feel that the sounds are coming from the speakers that surround the whole theatre. In this sound system, the background music and the sound of a conversation in a single scene will blend. Hence, the people feel that the sound escalation in the whole theatre room is very smooth.
The movie is based on Reki Kawahara’s Sword Art Online: Progressive light novel. ASCII Media Works started serializing the novel series in October 2012, with abec’s illustrations. It currently has 8 volumes available. The movie will adapt some parts of the novel’s first volume, and it will be available for more than 40 countries soon. A-1 Pictures (Sword Art Online series, 86-Eighty Six-) is taking care of its animation, while Ayako Kono (Gate) is directing.
The theme song for the anime film is LiSA’s Yuke, which was released on October 15, 2021, and currently has more than 2.1 million views on YouTube. You can watch the main trailer for the movie below:
