COVID-19 Outbreak Puts Shikimori-san Production at Risk of Delay

The official website for the Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie anime posted a message from the production committee stating that the studio behind the anime has been temporarily shut down after a COVID-19 outbreak, putting the series at risk of delays. The first episode will air as scheduled, on April 9, but there is no information about how the future episodes might be affected. The future broadcast schedule is being discussed and will be announced on the official Twitter and website.

The notice states that the committee is dedicated to putting the health and safety of the staff and cast first and that they will continue working on the production. Although not explicitly named in the statement, studio Doga Kobo is animating the series.

Before the announcement of the potential delay, Shikimori-san anime’s Twitter account was dedicated the promoting the premiere. Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie revealed a second trailer, which features the theme songs, on March 27:

Ryota Ito is directing the anime, with Ai Kikuchi on character designs. Yoshimi Narita will be overseeing the series composition. Hiroaki Tsutsumi is composing the music. The anime is based on a manga by Keigo Maki. Kodansha USA is publishing the manga in English and describes the plot as:
Shikimori seems like the perfect girlfriend: cute, fun to be around, sweet when she wants to be… but she has a cool dark side that comes out under the right circumstances. And her boyfriend Izumi loves to be around when that happens! A fun and funny high school romance with a sassy twist perfect for fans of Nagatoro-san and Komi Can’t Communicate!
