Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth revealed a new trailer and a new key visual earlier today, along with information that the anime will have 28 episodes. The first two will premiere on July 28 of this year. Studio WHITE FOX is animating the series.
Kenichi Kawamura (Steins;Gate 0) is directing the Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth anime, with Masahiko Nakada on character designs. Nakada is also listed as a chief animation director. In addition, Itsuki Yokoyama is overseeing series composition. Aquaplus is in charge of the music.
The main cast includes:
- Kentaro Tone as Oshutoru
- Inori Minase as Nekone

The story is based on a video game by Aquaplus, which describes it as the “final chapter of Utawarerumono series”. WHITE FOX animated the Utawarerumono: The False Faces anime, which aired throughout the Fall 2015 and Winter 2016 seasons and had 25 episodes. Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth is a direct sequel.
The first Utawarerumono anime (by studio OLM) aired in Spring 2006. A three-episode OVA aired from 2009 to 2010 and focused on side stories from the game, that were not a part of the first season.
