Hyouka anime revealed a creditless version of the opening and ending themes ahead of the special concert, announced for January 29, 2023. Composer Kohei Tanaka, who worked on the original anime, will make a special appearance at the event. The anime is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year and the concert is a part of the upcoming activities.
The KyoAni-animated series originally aired from April 23 to September 17, 2012, and it quickly gained a cult following in the anime community. The anime was directed by Yasuhiro Takemoto, who later directed Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid and Amagi Brilliant Park, before dying in the 2019 Kyoto Animation arson attack alongside Futoshi Nishiya who did the character designs. Nishiya was also the chief animation director for the anime and worked on both openings and endings. Shoji Gato did the series composition and also wrote the screenplay for some of the episodes.
The opening theme song for the Hyouka anime was “Yasahisa no Riyu” by ChouCho, while “Madoromi no Yakusoku” by Ai Kayano and Satomi Sato was the ending theme. The two also voiced Mayaka and Eru. The main cast also included Daisuke Sakaguchi as Satoshi Fukube and Yuichi Nakamura as Hotaro Oreki.
Hyouka is based on a novel by Honobu Yonezawa which was originally published in 2001, as the first part of the Kouten-bu Series. A manga adaptation by Taskohna started serialization in 2012 in Kadokawa’s Shonen Ace magazine. It has not been licensed in North America.
Funimation is streaming the series and describes the plot as:
After disenchanted student Hotaro Oreki joins his school’s Classic Lit Club, he meets Eru Chitanda, a kindhearted and inquisitive girl with boundless curiosity and a knack for getting him caught up in all sorts of trouble.
