The upcoming two-part Sailor Moon Cosmos film has revealed a key visual and a new trailer ahead of its theatrical release on June 9 and June 30 respectively. Toei Animation and Studio DEEN are animating the film.
Japanese singer Daoko will be performing the film’s theme song titled “Tsuki no Hana.” The singer is known for singing the opening theme song “Uchiage Hanabi” alongside Kenshi Yonezu for the 2017 romantic anime film Fireworks.
Recently, Sailor Moon Cosmos announced additional voice actors that are joining the cast roster, specifically the details about Sailor Starlight characters. The main cast includes:
- Kotono Mitsuishi as Sailor Moon/Usagi Tsukino
- Misato Fukuen as Sailor Chibi Moon
- Shizuka Ito as Minako Aino
- Reina Ueda as CereCere
- Kenji Nojima as Mamoru Chiba
- Rina Sato as Rei Hino
- Sayaka Ohara as Michiru Kaio
- Ami Koshimizu as Makoto Kino
The upcoming film follows the 2021 Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal: The Movie. These films are part of the new anime adaptation called Sailor Moon Crystal. Prior to the films, three seasons were released namely Dark Kingdom (July 2014-January 2015), Black Moon (February 2015-July 2015), and Death Busters (April-June 2016).
The Sailor Moon franchise started with a manga by Naoko Takeuchi. The manga was serialized in Kodansha’s Nakayoshi magazine from 1991 to 1997. The anime adaptation by Toei Animation premiered in 1992 and aired until 1997 includes Sailor Moon (1992–93), Sailor Moon R (1993–94), Sailor Moon S (1994–95), Sailor Moon SuperS (1995–96), and Sailor Moon Sailor Stars (1996–97). In 2022, the Sailor Moon franchise celebrated its 30th anniversary.
