September 9 is being celebrated as the first officially recognized Attack on Titan Day, with the franchise sharing 99 pieces of news from around the world as part of a large anniversary campaign.
The date was officially registered by the Japan Anniversary Association in recognition of September 9, 2009, when Hajime Isayama’s original Attack on Titan manga began serialization. The number nine also has a clear connection to the series with its Nine Titans.
Among the major announcements is a new celebratory illustration drawn by Isayama specifically for Attack on Titan Day.
A separate commemorative visual bringing together all Nine Titans has also been released, alongside a special logo inspired by the Doomsday Titan.
The franchise has also launched its official Attack on Titan YouTube channel, which will feature content including limited-time anime streams and exclusive videos. An anniversary livestream is scheduled for September 9 on the new channel, while you can watch a special video introducing the 9 titans below.
On the manga side, the first 99 chapters of Attack on Titan will be available to read for free through Kodansha’s Magazine Pocket for 99 hours beginning on September 9 at 00:00 JST. New commemorative merchandise is also going on sale through Shonen Magazine Shop, including products featuring the anniversary visual and an original Isayama illustration showing the characters in formal attire.
Several theatrical projects were included among the main announcements as well. Attack on Titan Part 1 -Guren no Yumiya- will return to Japanese theaters on October 23, 2026, with ScreenX, 4DX and ULTRA 4DX presentations. Attack on Titan THE LAST ATTACK will receive the same formats in 2027, marking the film’s first ScreenX release.
Koei Tecmo’s upcoming Attack on Titan 3 also received a new opening animation key visual by MAPPA. The game is scheduled for release on December 10.
The remaining announcements include merchandise, events, international collaborations and screenings. They include new projects with Sanrio Characters, Team Liquid, MSI and ROUND1, additional figures from companies including Good Smile Company, Kotobukiya and MEDICOS ENTERTAINMENT, and Attack on Titan events and product launches across Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Australia, Europe, Africa and other regions.
The anniversary campaign also included several lighter updates directly from Isayama, ranging from his recent interest in romantic comedy manga to comments about movies, driving, saunas and food.
