Episode 12 of Bang Dream! Ave Mujica was my favorite episode from that series mainly because it was Sakiko’s episode. And with another Episode 12 from a different BanG Dream! series focusing on another keyboardist and my favorite girl from the group felt like it was deliberate.
This episode made me love Miyako even more, and I never once doubted my choice of choosing a favorite girl from the band. To be fair, I love every MewType member because each of them has their own quirks and personalities that got me interested. But there’s just something about Miyako that I love so much. Even when people doubted her and hated her, I never doubted her. That’s why seeing everything come together in this episode was so satisfying as a Miyako fan.
While I do think MewType still has a lot of unresolved issues, I guess that’s part of the lesson this episode is trying to teach us. Once you put yourself online, no matter what you do, whether it’s good or bad, problems will always find a way to arise. What matters is how you choose to deal with them and whether you can move forward together. I’m just happy that MewType is finally moving on as one.
Now, to address the elephant in the room: Viola. I’ve described Viola as this sinister mastermind who controls the entire MewType crew, but her plans ultimately fall apart once everyone finally wakes up to what she’s doing. And, honestly, it’s kind of funny that the way they defeat her is by simply ignoring her and refusing to play along anymore.
I do think it’s a bit of a weak solution for the adults to clean up the mess Viola created, and the whole thing felt somewhat rushed. It’s anticlimactic. Still, part of me thinks that’s exactly what Viola deserves. There doesn’t need to be some grand climax to conclude everything she’s done. After all the chaos she caused, watching her influence simply disappear because everyone stopped listening to her was strangely satisfying.
That brings us to Miyako finally moving on from Viola, and to me, this is one of my favorite scenes in the entire BanG Dream! franchise.
Miyako has always been so closed off about her feelings. She barely shares what she’s thinking with the other members, and I understood that as part of her introverted nature. She’s the kind of person who keeps everything inside and tries to process her emotions on her own and I also love how the other members understand that about her.
Because of that, I really thought she was going to remain like this until the end of the series. I thought she would never completely resolve her issues with Viola and would continue being that awkward and emotionally closed-off member of the group. Maybe she would slowly work through everything in the Our Notes game or something.
But I never imagined what came next which was Miyako finally letting everything out.
She didn’t just tell Viola that she was no longer going to be her toy but she also finally expressed how she really felt and just how much MewType means to her. Despite how annoying, chaotic, and frustrating they can be, Miyako loves these girls. She loves being part of this freaky band.
I was in absolute tears as the whole scene unfolded. I couldn’t help but keep clapping and cheering for Miyako as she finally let out all the emotions she had been holding inside in a way I never imagined I would see from her. After supporting her since MewType was first announced, watching her finally stand up for herself and the people she cares about was incredibly rewarding.
I’ve watched a lot of romance anime, and I’ve always thought break-up scenes can be beautiful because they often become the catalyst for a character’s growth. Most break-ups are sad, but this one was just… incredibly cringey. And yet, somehow, it was beautiful.
I don’t even know how to properly describe it because I don’t think I’ve ever witnessed a scene quite like this before. It was probably the cringiest break-up I’ve ever seen, but there was something genuinely beautiful about it. Maybe it’s because this was Miyako finally moving forward.
I’ve joked before that I’m Miyako’s lawyer and that I would defend her no matter what. But it turns out she never needed a lawyer. All she needed was to finally be true to herself.
And there’s one last thing I realized while watching this episode: Miyako is probably the BanG Dream! character I’ve resonated with the most.
When Miyako said, “I am empty inside. I have no confidence, so I don’t have the words to describe who I am. I have no confidence in my work either, even though I pour my soul into it,” those words hit me extremely hard.
I’m not trying to be edgy when I say that. Those lines just resonated with me in a way I wasn’t expecting. There’s something about seeing Miyako struggle with her own sense of identity and confidence, while still pouring everything she has into the things she cares about, that made me look at her differently.
Miyako, you’re one of a kind. And after everything she went through, seeing her finally find the courage to speak for herself and move forward with MewType made this episode feel incredibly special to me.
With Miyako finally letting everything out and MewType pushing for their dreams, I don’t know if Viola has anything left to rain on their parade. With only one more episode left, it’s just going to be another performance, but the thing about the finale performances in BanG Dream! is that they are always something else. The characters always seem to shine like the stars in the sky, and I expect for MewType to be exactly the same.
