Blue Period Live Action Movie Announced With August Premiere Date

A Blue Period live-action movie is headed to Japanese theatres on August 9th. Tsubasa Yamaguchi’s highly acclaimed Blue Period manga is a master class in introspection. And now with the backing of Warner Brothers, the story is set to make its big-screen debut. The live-action will be directed by Kentaro Hagiwara (known for directing the Tokyo Ghoul live-action and movies such as Our 30 Minute Sessions and Ato 3-Kai, Mimi Ni Aeru.) While the Blue Period anime scriptriter, Reiko Yoshida, will be handling the script. And Yuki Kojima (Yaffel) is in charge of the show’s OST. The first trailer is already available on YouTube and a special visual to celebrate the adaptation has also been released.

While success in life, good company, and good grades/pay may be the biggest driver for most people, for others all of it falls way short of sparking any meaningful happiness and fulfillment in life. Yatora Yaguchi knows these feelings all too well, as even as he cruises through his earthly time with a well-rounded existence, little actually lights a fire in his heart.

But one morning, after a late-night escapade that lasted until the morning, he’s struck by the serenity in front of him. By a twist of fate, he’s forced to return to school one evening to pick up a pack of cigarettes that he had left under a table in the art club and is stunned by the artwork he encounters. But due to an altercation, he leaves before he can let his curiosity get the best of him. But like a moth to a flame, back to the art club he goes. Soon he finds himself trying to recreate the scenery he saw and becomes lost in the intricacies and trials of art and realizes how big of a fire that can light in one’s soul.
