The DanMachi franchise is getting a new game, titled DanMachi: Battle Chronicle (DanChro), set to launch on August 24. Pre-registrations are open on the official website and the count has already hit 750 thousand pre-registered users. Aiming is developing the game, which will be available in English, Japanese, Traditional Chinese and Korean, on Google Play Store and AppStore. The Japanese cast from the anime is reprising their roles in the game.
The game was initially set to debut in May of this year but the release date was postponed to August due to the production team’s desire to “further enhance the game’s quality.” Aiming describes the DanChro as:
DanChro is a new battle-action RPG game where players can experience the stories and iconic battles from the DanMachi series along with the anime-like 3D graphics of the characters. Enjoy exhilarating action using primarily special moves from the series, various ways to attack, and dodging in a simple yet profound “Battle.” Go on an adventure with a party that you set up consisting of upgradable “Adventurers,” “Assists,” and “Scene Cards.”
The game is fully loaded with content such as a battle royal where everyone is your enemy and the autoplay combat, “Battle Arena,” where setup will be key. Challenge the dungeon together with your favorite characters like Bell and Hestia!
The franchise is based on the Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? light novel series written by Fujino Omori and illustrated by Suzuhito Yasuda. SB Creative has been publishing it under its GA Bunko imprint since 2013. Yen Press licensed the series in English and describes the plot as:
Adventurer Bell Cranell’s life changed forever when he met the goddess Hestia, becoming the first member of her familia. Since then, he’s gone on many adventures, growing much stronger in the process. But when he steps foot into Orario’s pleasure quarter, where Ishtar Familia reigns supreme, he soon finds himself in way over his head… With enemies all around him, he’ll need the help of a beautiful, fox-eared courtesan if he’s to have any hope of making it back home!
The series also received a successful anime adaptation by studio J.C. Staff with four seasons. The first one aired in the Spring 2015 season, while the second followed in the Summer of 2019. The third season aired in the Fall of 2020, and the OVA for it came out in 2021. Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon: Arrow of the Orion movie premiered in 2019. The latest, fourth season, was split into two cours and aired last year.
