Box office success
Demon Slayer: Mugen Train premiered in Japanese theatres on October 16, 2020, at the height of the pandemic. Since its global release, the film’s success has only continued to grow. Upon its debut in North American cinemas on April 23 of this year, the film dominated the U.S. box office charts. Notably, it became the second-ever Japanese film to rank #1 at the weekend box office in the U.S. after Pokemon: The First Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back in 1998.
But the accolades don’t stop there! Demon Slayer: Mugen Train also earned the distinction of the highest-grossing film of all time in Japan. Consequently, the film has overtaken such high-earning classics as Spirited Away!
Demon Slayer: Mugen Train is currently streaming exclusively on Funimation in selected countries. On December 21, the film will also be available on Blu-ray outside of Japan. Demon Slayer’s TV anime will also return on December 5 with the 2nd season. For more details about what’s happening with season 2, read here.
