Echoes of Aincrad Reveals “Genesis Maidens” DLC

Sony’s State of Play announced that Bandai Namco Entertainment will release a “Genesis Maidens” DLC for the video game Echoes of Aincrad.

Bandai Namco Entertainment did not reveal the DLC’s exact release date but instead touted a winter release. “Genesis Maidens” features the character Mito (Misumi Tozawa) from Sword Art Online: Progressive and includes a new weapon type, the curved sword, armor enhancements, and Mito-exclusive combination and support skills. The DLC’s story is new to the franchise and takes place on the 1^st and 2^nd floors of Aincrad.

Bandai Namco Entertainment launched Echoes of Aincrad on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on July 9 in Japan. They released the game on PC (Steam) the following day. The Western release occurred the following day on all platforms. Several editions are available, including the Standard, Deluxe, and Ultimate Editions. The Bandai Namco store also sells an exclusive “Aincrad Edition.” Both the Ultimate and Aincrad editions include several perks, like the Unanswered//butterfly content app and anime.

Echoes of Aincrad is a third-person RPG set in the original Sword Art Online timeline where players take the role of one of the 10,000 people trapped in the story’s death game.

The game is based on Reki Kawahara’s Sword Art Online. Kawahara originally released Sword Art Online as a self-published web novel under the pen name Fumio Kunori from 2002 to 2028. Kadokawa’s ASCII Media Works began publishing Sword Art Online as a light novel under its Dengeki Bunko imprint in April 2009.

Sword Art Online now boasts several light novels, spin-off novels, manga adaptations, TV anime, theatrical films, and video games.
