Wandering Planet Toys has revealed the Showa WarLor, a new addition to its Planetoid Raiders action figure line inspired by the look and spirit of Japan’s Showa-era tokusatsu, manga, anime and toy culture. Anime Corner has the opportunity to exclusively reveal the figure ahead of New York Comic Con 2026, while the Kickstarter campaign is now also live.
The Showa WarLor reimagines the existing WarLor character with a new color scheme, Japanese Planetoid Raiders logo and newly designed cardback artwork. The figure is intended as a tribute to the era that produced franchises and characters such as Godzilla, Ultraman, Kamen Rider and Super Sentai, as well as the sofubi collectibles associated with Japanese monster and hero culture.
The release also coincides with the 100th anniversary of the beginning of Japan’s Showa era, which ran from 1926 to 1989.
Wandering Planet Toys co-founder Chris “Doc” Wyatt commented:
“Evil doers and toxic mega-monsters beware– WarLor gonna enlarge to Kaiju-size and kick you back to Monster Island. SKREEONK!!!”
Co-founder Gavin Hignight also shared the following:
“It’s amazing. Some type of cosmic rift opened, some alternate universe where this version of WarLor has crossed over from! Already a mysterious character, now we learn of an entirely new and different existence (and paint deco) for the character! Is there anywhere, or anytime this mystic space-traveler has not been to? Hope he evokes joy for other collectors like he does us!”
Showa WarLor joins the wider Planetoid Raiders lineup, a series of retro-style 1:18 scale figures with five points of articulation. The line draws inspiration from Kenner’s 1978 Star Wars figures and Tomland Toys’ Starroid Raiders, combining vintage science-fiction toy aesthetics with original characters.
Other characters in the first wave include Captain Oton, Helmsman Ryot, Yogun and WarLor, alongside additional figures revealed throughout the campaign. The figures are available individually on retro-inspired cardbacks or as part of a metal lunchbox-style collector’s case featuring artwork by Bill Rude.
Wandering Planet Toys is currently funding Planetoid Raiders through Kickstarter, where Showa WarLor is available alongside the rest of the line ahead of New York Comic Con 2026.
