Yakuza Fiancé anime revealed new cast members, including Kazuya Nakai as Gaku Miyama and Yoji Ueda as Renji Somei. The anime will premiere in October 2024, with Crunchyroll streaming it. Studio DEEN is animating, and you can see the new characters below:
The two are leaders of different factions of a Yakuza organization, as well as the grandfathers of the main duo. You can read some more details about the two below.
Gaku Miyama (CV: Kazuya Nakai):
Character description: The head of the MIyama family, a direct branch of the Tokusa, the largest yakuza group in Kanto, and the great-uncle of Kirishima. In his youth, it’s said he resembled Kirishima quite a bit, with an elegant and dignified demeanor, and he still maintains a commanding presence even now.
He is an old friend of Renji Somei, and despite not having a wide circle of acquaintances, Renji is one of his few close friends. Renji, who is known for his strength in both verbal sparring and physical confrontations, has only lost to him once.
Kazuya Nakai’s comment: “This might be my first time playing a character who could be called ‘grandfather.’ I’m excited. The intensity, confidence, and allure that comes from living in a world where life and death are constantly at stake—there are a lot of elements I’d love to express. But for now, I just hope I don’t get caught up in all the Kansai dialect flying around the studio!”
Renji Somei (CV: Yoji Ueda)
Character description: Yoshino’s grandfather and the head of the Somei family, a direct branch of the Kirigaya, the largest yakuza group in Kansai. After she lost her parents at a young age, Renji raised Yoshino alongside his subordinates.
Renji is a gentle yet bright and tough man, but his sudden remarks and actions sometimes take Yoshino by surprise. He is a long-time friend of Gaku Miyama, and together with their grandchildren, he advances the connection between Yoshino and Kirishima.
Yoji Ueda’s comment: “Renji-san feels like a cool older man who never really grew out of being a mischievous kid, and the anime’s design makes him look really stylish, so I feel a bit of pressure. However, since I’m also from Kansai, I want to make sure I capture the vibe of those conversations. While he may come off as a quirky old man, I hope to convey the deep inner strength of a yakuza boss, and show how terrifying he can be when he’s angry.”
The anime was announced back in October 2023, while the first staff and cast information was released in June. It will be directed by Toshifumi Kawase, with series composition and script by Rika Takasugi, character design by Itsuko Takeda, and music by Hiroaki Tsutsumi and Masato Suzuki. The currently known voice cast now consists of:
- Hitomi Ueda as Yoshino Somei
- Akira Ishida as Kirishima Miyama
- Hiroshi Kamiya as Suo Azami
- Koji Yusa as Shoma Toriashi
- Kazuya Nakai as Gaku Miyama
- Yoji Ueda as Renji Somei
Yakuza Fiancé: Raise wa Tanin ga Ii is a Japanese manga written and drawn by Asuka Konishi. It has been ongoing in Kodansha’s Monthly Afternoon magazine since August 2017. Seven Seas Entertainment licenses the manga and describes the first volume:
In this critically acclaimed romantic crime drama, a yakuza granddaughter is sent from Osaka to marry the grandson of a rival family in Tokyo!
Yoshino grew up the sheltered yakuza princess of the largest crime family in Osaka, the Somei. Due to her resting bitch face and dangerous family, no man has ever approached her. When her grandfather signs a truce with the Tokyo-based Miyama crime family, he offers her up as a truce bride to the Miyama leader’s grandson! Kirishima Miyama is popular, charming, and seems totally normal.
But behind his smile is a violent sadomasochist who thirsts for her dominance even more when she impresses him with her moxie! Even though she knows how bad yakuza can be, she’s stunned by Miyama’s viciousness. She can’t turn him down with the East-West peace treaty on the line…so instead she steels herself to play ball!
