Netflix has announced BET, a new live-action adaptation based on the thriller manga Kakegurui. The show is now in production in Toronto led by showrunner Simon Barry (Warrior Nun). They describe the story and introduce the cast:
A boarding school for the global elite where underground gambling determines the social hierarchy is upended by the arrival of a mysterious transfer student. Starring Miku Martineau, Ayo Solanke, Eve Edwards, Clara Alexandrova, Hunter Cardinal, Anwen O’Driscoll, Aviva Mongillo, Ryan Sutherland.
Kakegurui: Compulsive Gambler is a Japansese manga written by Homura Kawamoto and illustrated by Toru Naomura. It began serialization in Square Enix’s Gangan Joker in March 2014, with seventeen volumes published as of July 2023. There is also a spin-off prequel manga Kakegurui Twin with story by Kawamoto and art by Kei Saiki that started in September 2015. Yen Press licensed both the manga series in English
In addition, the popular manga has received various adaptations, including two anime seasons by Studio MAPPA, as well as an adaptation of the Twin spin-off. There is also already a live-action Kakegurui series, which ran for two seasons and a movie.
