Ninja Scroll is heading back to theaters in North America in a new 4K presentation, and Anime Corner has received an exclusive clip from the upcoming release. The clip gives a new look at the remastered presentation ahead of the film’s limited theatrical run on October 4, 5 and 7.
HIDIVE and Iconic Events Releasing will present the three-day run in approximately 600 theaters. The October 4 screening will be available with English subtitles, October 5 will feature the English dub, and the October 7 encore will offer either format depending on the theater. We previously had the opportunity to exclusively share a still from the remaster, while you can watch the new clip below.
The restoration was supervised by writer and director Yoshiaki Kawajiri and produced by Sentai. The remaster began with a 4K scan of the original 35mm negative at 3840 × 2160 resolution, followed by frame-by-frame damage repair and color correction to create a new archival-quality digital master. You can watch the trailer below.
Originally released in 1993 and produced by Madhouse, Ninja Scroll follows Jubei after he saves a young ninja woman and becomes drawn into an investigation surrounding the mysterious deaths of an entire village. The pair soon uncover a larger conspiracy involving supernatural enemies determined to stop them.
The upcoming screenings are being promoted as the first opportunity for North American audiences to see the newly remastered 4K version of the film in theaters.
