PlayStation’s recent State of Play, held on September 13, 2022, showcased new games, and updates about previously announced games like Hogwarts Legacy. However, for more cultured individuals, looking for more ‘weeby’ titles, the State of Play had you covered. Here are some games made by Japanese developers that followers of Anime Corner might be interested in:
Tekken 8 (TBA)
The legendary fighting game series returns with a new entry bringing plenty of kicks, punches, and demons. The developer of the series offered insight into the ongoing story:
“Just as the ending dialogue of Tekken 7 mentioned, this new entry will focus on the father and son showdown between Kazuya Mishima and Jin Kazama.”Katsuhiro Harada, Executive Producer and Director, Bandai Namco Studio
Yakuza/Like a Dragon: Ishin! (February 2023)
A remake of the Japan-exclusive title first released in 2014, this spin-off of the Like a Dragon series (known outside of Japan as the ‘Yakuza‘ series) takes the protagonist to the Bakumatsu period of the Edo Period. The developers have given credit to Ghost of Tsushima for paving the way for this game to be released in the West.
Stellar Blade (previously known as Project EVE) (2023)
Set in a post apocalypse setting with plenty of monsters and sci-fi weapons to fight them, Eve and Adam work to save what’s left of humanity.
Rise of the Ronin (2024)
As Japan sees the end of the Edo Period and welcomes a new era, a masterless samurai walks the land facing numerous opponents with stellar samurai combat.
Another sci-fi game set in a dystopian future where what is left of humanity must rely on a cute anime girl to save them, though this one has a robot AI companion. Coming to PlayStation in 2023. An anime project is also in the works.
