The expanded version of Romance of the Three Kingdoms VIII by Koei (now Koei Tecmo) is getting a digital makeover, dubbed Romance of the Three Kingdoms VIII Remake, which is slated for a 2024 launch. The game will feature a visual and game system upgrade and see a rollout on multiple platforms, namely PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and Switch.
As a remake, the game will be making use of Romance of the Three Kingdoms VIII with Power Up Kit, which comes with the additional content “All Officers Play” and “All Periods Scenarios.” Coinciding the announcement is also a brief 1-minute and 23-second trailer, which provides a glimpse at the developing remake.
Koei Tecmo America’s announcement is a little sparse, but the company promised to provide more details during the Tokyo Game Show on September 22.
Originally released as a PC title in Japan on June 29, 2001, Romance of the Three Kingdoms VIII was subsequently ported to other platforms. Specifically, on Mac on February 22, 2002, and the PlayStation 2 across Japan (January 24, 2002) and North America (August 13, 2003). The game also saw an exclusive port to the PlayStation Portable in Japan on March 29, 2007.
On August 30, 2017, Koei Tecmo released Romance of the Three Kingdoms with Power Up Kit on Steam but only supports two languages—Japanese and Chinese.
Meanwhile, the latest installment in the popular historical simulation franchise, Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIV, was launched for the PlayStation 4 and PC in Japan in January 2020, followed by a North American release in February 2020. The game was also made available to the Nintendo Switch on December 9, 2020 in Japan and February 11, 2021 in North America.
