Ruri Dragon Creator Hopes to Bring Good News in 2024 (Coincidentally, the Year of the Dragon)

RuriDragon creator Masaoki Shindo stoked hopes of a return with his optimistic response to fans after placing joint 9th in this year’s Kono Manga ga Sugoi! for the male category, stating he hoped to bring good news next year. Kono Manga ga Sugoi! is a ranking by the well-known Japanese publisher Takarajimasha, which releases their favorite manga of the year and is typically seen as a big honor. Shindo’s statement (via X) reads:
Thank you very much to everyone who voted. I’m sorry for being out of touch for a while. My health condition is good at the moment. I will do my best so that I can bring good news next year.

RuriDragon began serialization in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump in June 2022, selling 74,874 copies in its first week and debuting to rave reviews. A RuriDragon return in 2024 would coincide with the Chinese zodiac’s Year of the Dragon, as fans jokingly pointed out on social media. The manga’s return continues to be the most anticipated for Jump readers since its indefinite hiatus, with fans remaining hopeful the series will return at some point.
