SK8 the Infinity Season 2 Teases Winter Setting with New Illustration and Message From Director

A new update on SK8 the Infinity Season 2 was shared during the anime’s “∞ Day” Instagram Live broadcast on August 8, featuring a new illustration and a message from director Hiroko Utsumi.

The livestream, featuring Tasuku Hatanaka (Reki) and Chiaki Kobayashi (Langa), was previously announced as part of the franchise’s annual August 8 celebration. During the broadcast, an update on the previously announced second season was presented alongside an illustration labeled “Season 2.”

While the production is not yet at a stage where new footage or other materials can be shown, Utsumi confirmed that the second season is progressing and revealed one detail about its setting: Season 2 will take place during winter.

Utsumi’s full message reads:

We’re not yet at the stage where we have something we can actually show everyone, but we wanted to share at least a little something about Season 2. So, just one small detail: Season 2 takes place in winter!

Winter in SK∞… which means… SK∞ might look something like this! …Maybe. The possibilities are infinite, after all. We’re steadily making progress on Season 2, so please look forward to it and wait just a little longer

SK8 the Infinity Season 2 was originally announced alongside an OVA in August 2022. The four-part OVA, SK8 the Infinity EXTRA PART, was released in 2025, while further details on the second TV season have remained limited.

Studio BONES has been in charge of the animation so far, while Aniplex licensed the show. They describe the story:

Reki, a high school sophomore and skater, is addicted to “S,” a highly secret and dangerous downhill skateboarding race that takes place in an abandoned mine. The skaters are especially wild about the “beefs,” or heated battles that erupt in the races.

Reki takes Langa, a transfer student returning to Japan after studying abroad, to the mine where the races are held. Langa, who has no skateboarding experience, finds himself pulled into the world of “S”…

The first season of the anime was released in Winter 2021.
