The upcoming Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf anime will premiere on April 1. The anime is a reboot of the popular 2008 Spice and Wolf series, with the new one set to be animated by Studio Passione.
Ami Koshimizu and Jun Fukuyama are returning as the main characters Holo and Lawrence. Takeo Takahashi, who directed the original series, is listed as the chief director for the remake. Hijiri Sanpei is directing, while Kevin Penkin is composing the music.
Crunchyroll will be streaming the upcoming Spice and Wolf reboot, describing the plot as:
Lawrence is a traveling merchant selling various goods from a horse-drawn cart. One day, he arrives at a village and meets a beautiful girl with the ears and tail of an animal! Her name is Holo the Wisewolf and she brings bountiful harvests. She wishes to return to her homeland, and Lawrence offers to take her. Now, the once-lonely merchant and the once-lonely wisewolf begin their journey north.
Spice and Wolf is based on a light novel series by Isuna Hasekura and illustrated by Ju Ayakura. It is being serialized by ASCII Media Works since February 2006 under its Dengeki Bunko imprint. A manga adaptation illustrated by Keito Koume began serialization in the November 2007 issue of ASCII Media Works’ Dengeki Maoh. The series also sprang a spin-off series titled Wolf and Parchment, and has been serialized since September 2016.
The original Spice and Wolf anime aired for two seasons: the first one from January to March 2008 and was animated by Imagin while the second one aired from July to September 2009 and was animated by Brain’s Base and Marvy Jack. Details on the anime reboot were first announced in February 2022.
