The upcoming Jump Festa 2023 event announced that voice actor Takahiro Sakurai won’t be appearing at this year’s Jujutsu Kaisen stage, as previously announced. The stage is set for December 17. Takahiro Sakurai voices Suguru Geto in the Jujutsu Kaisen anime.
“The scheduled appearance of Takahiro Sakurai was called off for Jump Festa 2023 ‘Jujutsu Kaisen’ Super Stage being held on Thursday, December 17,” the announcement titled “Announcement Regarding Jump Festa 2023 ‘Jujutsu Kaisen’ Jump Super Stage” states. The statement concludes with an apology for the trouble caused.
Takahiro Sakurai is a well-known voice actor who voiced Giyu Tomioka in the Demon Slayer series, Arataka Reigen in Mob Psycho 100, Rohan Kishibe in the Jojo series, and more. He is currently playing Tsubame Onotsu in the Urusei Yatsura reboot and is reprising his role as Reigen in Mob Psycho 100 III. In late October, the voice actor confirmed allegations of a decade-long extramarital affair and apologized in a statement issued on his agency’s website.
Studio MAPPA is animating the Jujutsu Kaisen anime series based on Gege Akutami’s manga of the same name serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine since March 2018. The series released the first compiled volume in July of the year and surpassed 70 million circulating copies as of the release of the 20th volume in August 2022. The anime’s first season aired from October 2020 to March 2021 with a total of 24 episodes, along with Jujutsu Kaisen 0: The Movie which premiered on December 24, 2021, in Japan. A second season is currently in production and is scheduled to begin broadcasting in 2023 with consecutive two cours.
Viz Media licensed the manga for English releases and will release the 18th volume on December 21, 2022. The official website describes the plot of volume 1 as:
