JH’s WEBTOON series The Boxer is officially getting a TV anime adaptation. A special announcement trailer was revealed alongside the main cast and production staff during the Crunchyroll Showcase at New York Comic Con 2026.
Koki Uchiyama will voice protagonist Yu, a boxer whose overwhelming natural ability allows him to rise rapidly through the sport. Kensho Ono will voice Ryu, a naturally gifted boxer who becomes Yu’s first opponent. Tomokazu Seki will play legendary trainer K, who discovers Yu’s extraordinary potential, while Toshiyuki Toyonaga will voice J, a legendary boxer who has already retired.
Crunchyroll describes the story:
A talent bestowed upon a monster. Is it a blessing—or a curse? K, a legendary boxing trainer who has produced numerous world champions, is searching for his “final disciple.” Then he encounters Yu, a boy in a back alley who simply stands there, taking punch after punch. The boy shows neither anger nor fighting spirit, yet K sees in him something beyond genius: a talent of unfathomable potential.
Under K’s guidance, Yu steps into the boxing ring. With an overwhelming strength that can only be described as monstrous, he begins his ascent toward the pinnacle of the boxing world. Standing in his way are champions who stake their pride on skills honed to perfection, and fighters who have overcome the limits of talent through sheer effort. Each carries a dream they refuse to surrender and a reason to keep fighting. Their clashes with the monster shake even the foundations of the lives they have built.
And what does Yu himself seek at the end of his fists? The life of one “monster” intertwines with the lives of those who fight him. Beyond talent and hard work, glory and defeat, a story begins—one that asks what it truly means to be strong.
Yudai Kubota and KANG Wonyeong are directing the anime. Masahiro Suwa is handling the character designs, while Toshiya Ono is in charge of the series composition and scripts. Animation production is being handled jointly by breccia, a new studio founded by Kinema Citrus founding member Muneki Ogasawara, and South Korea-based STUDIO JEMI.
The Boxer originally began serialization on South Korea’s NAVER WEBTOON in 2019 and ran on Japan’s LINE Manga from 2020 to 2022. The series has surpassed 1.06 billion cumulative views worldwide. A print edition reformatted from its vertical full-color WEBTOON presentation has also been published in Japan under Shueisha’s Jump Comics label, with six volumes released.
The anime is one of the titles being developed under the newly announced partnership between HAYATE, LINE Digital Frontier and Crunchyroll, which plans to work on potential anime adaptations of around 15 WEBTOON series.
