The Undead Unluck anime revealed on Saturday during Anime Japan 2024 that the series will make a big announcement on August 1, 2024. The first season was animated by studio David Production and aired for a total of 24 episodes from October 7, 2023, to March 23, 2024.

Yuki Yase directed the first season of Undead Unluck while Sei Tsugata and Yamato Haishima were in charge of the script. Hideyuki Morioka handled character designs and Kenichiro Suehiro composed the music. Jin Aketagawa (Fire Force, Dr. Stone) created the sound design, and Aiko Mizuno the color design. Keito Watanabe worked as the art director with Takao Saito as the director of photography.
The main cast of the series included Moe Kahara (Akira – The Executioner and Her Way of Life) as Fuuko Izumo and Yuuichi Nakamura (Gojo – Jujutsu Kaisen) as Andy. Other prominent cast members included Natsuki Hanae (Tanjiro – Demon Slayer) as Shen, Nobuhiko Okamoto (Bakugo – My Hero Academia) as Top, Yuki Kaji (Eren – Attack on Titan) as Rip, Ayumu Murase (Hinata – Haikyuu!) as Chikara Shigeno, and Mariya Ise (Himeno – Chainsaw Man) as Juiz.
The Undead Unluck anime series is based on the manga written and illustrated by Yoshifumi Tozuka. It began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump on January 20, 2020, and has since released a total of 20 volumes, with Volume 21 set to release on May 2, 2024. The Undead Unluck manga has over 1.8 million copies in circulation as of March 2024. VIZ Media licensed the series back in 2020 and has published the first 14 volumes, with the next set to release on April 16, 2024.
VIZ Media describes the story of Undead Unluck as such:
What happens when an unlucky girl meets an undead guy? Pure chaos! Tired of inadvertently killing people with her special ability Unluck, Fuuko Izumo sets out to end it all. But when she meets Andy, a man who longs for death but can’t die, she finds a reason to live—and he finds someone capable of giving him the death he’s been longing for. All Fuuko wants is a whirlwind romance like the one in her favorite shojo manga. Unfortunately, her Unluck ability makes that impossible. But just as Fuuko hits rock bottom, Andy sweeps her off her feet—literally! Now she’s become Andy’s unwilling test subject as he works to find a way to trigger a stroke of Unluck big enough to kill him for good. However, when the pair discovers a secret organization is hunting them, it puts Andy’s burial plans on hold.
