WITCH WATCH released a new trailer today featuring many of the series’ characters and a tease of the opening theme song “Watch me!” by J-POP unit YOASOBI. In celebration of the opening theme, which was written specifically for the upcoming series, Mainichi Broadcasting System, Inc. (MBS) released brand new poster art for it. WITCH WATCH – New Anime Trailer Featuring OP by YOASOBI

The WITCH WATCH anime adapts the manga of the same name by Kenta Shinohara (SKET DANCE), a magical romantic comedy that follows teenage witch Nico and her familiar Morihito who is tasked with her protection, living with her under the same roof and using his ogre-inherited strength to fulfill his duty.

Nico couldn’t be happier to live with Morihito, who she has a crush on, while Morihito is quite serious about his duties and a lot less focused on a potential romance. This mixture of personalities and a mash of magical mishaps make this romantic comedy a great one. The original WITCH WATCH manga is currently serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump with a cumulative circulation exceeding 3 million copies.

WITCH WATCH – New Anime Visual

On the new song, YOASOBI commented the following: “We are YOASOBI. We are honored to provide the opening theme song, “Watch me!” for this show. I, Ayase, love WITCH WATCH, of course, but have been a fan of Kenta Shinohara-Sensei’s works since SKET DANCE‘, so I was very honored to be a part of this project. The song “Watch me!” that I wrote for this series is focused on the pure romantic feelings that the main character Nico has for her childhood friend, Morihito. I love Nico-chan as a character, and how she falls in love with Morihito, and I think the song expresses Nico’s cuteness.”

In case you haven’t heard of them, YOASOBI is one of the most popular Japanese artists in the world, with multiple diamond-certified singles and viral songs. They’re also behind the opening songs for anime such as Beastars and Oshi no Ko. The hit single serving as the opening for the latter of those two anime set the record for the longest-running number one song in Billboard Japan Hot 100 history at 21 consecutive weeks and was the first Japanese act to top the Billboard Global Excl. US charts.

MBS is partnering with with ADN, Aniplus, GKIDS, and Tropics for the a global theatrical premiere of WITCH WATCH: WATCH PARTY. Screenings begin in North America on March 16th from GKIDS and will come to theaters in Asia beginning March 18th from Tropics, in selected European countries in March from ADN, and in Korea in March 21st from Aniplus.
