6 RomCom Anime Coming in April 2022 Will Make Spring Filled With Romance

As we head towards the Spring 2022 anime season, it’s interesting to note that there will be a lot of romantic comedies (romcom) starting in April. While the season will also see the return of The Rising of the Shield Hero with its 2nd season and Kingdom with season 4, it’s clear that it will be dominated by the romcoms. Here’s the shows you won’t want to miss as a fan of the genre, along with a few that aren’t exactly romcoms but might still hit the right buttons.

Kaguya-sama: Love is War: Ultra Romantic (Season 3)

Kaguya and Miyuki continue their love war this spring in the 3rd season of one of the most popular romcom anime Kaguya-sama: Love is War, and it’s set to premiere in April. The studio which produced the first 2 season, A-1 Pictures, is returning to animate it, and they released a 10-minute trailer for “Yu Ishigami Wants to Chat”, covering the entire chapter 110 of the manga:

They recently revealed character visuals for Ai HaysakaIino MikoYu IshigamiChika Fujiwara, Miyuki Shirogane and Kaguya Shinomiya, and a special announcement is scheduled for March 18, 2022. Funimation streams both seasons of the TV anime, and they describe the story:

People think Miyuki and Kaguya should date. However, arrogance is in ample supply, so the only move is to trick the other into acting first!

Science Fell in Love, So I Tried to Prove It. r=1-sinθ (Season 2)

A huge romcom hit from 2020, Science Fell in Love, So I Tried to Prove It is also returning with a season 2 TV anime in April 2022. Ayame Himuro and Shinya Yukimura are 2 scientists who have an interesting take on romance, and the first season ended after they finally made some serious progress. You can watch the announcement trailer:

Studio Zero-G animated the first season, although they haven’t been confirmed to return for the sequel yet. Crunchyroll streams the anime, and they describe the story:

What happens when a science-inclined girl and boy who are deeply passionate about research fall in love? An intelligent woman named Himuro Ayame who is a science graduate student at Saitama University happens to ask fellow science grad student Yukimura Shinya out. Of course, there’s no logical reason for this love! But as a science and engineering major, not being able to logically prove love would mean that those feelings aren’t real, and they’d fail as a science student. With that in mind, the two drag everyone else in the lab into trying various experiments to prove love actually exists.

Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie

The first non-sequel romcom anime on the list for this spring, Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie is also set to begin in April 2022. Originally scheduled to begin on April 2, it was delayed by a week and will instead premiere on April 9. Studio Doga Kobo is in charge of the production, and the main cast and staff were previously announced. You can watch the latest trailer:

A Couple of Cuckoos

An anime adaptation of an extremely popular manga which had to be reprinted several times in Japan, A Couple of Cuckoos is yet another romcom anime that will make April 2022 and spring dominated by the genre. Studios SynergySP and Shin-Ei Animation are in charge of the production, and you can watch the main trailer:

They previously released trailers focusing on the characters Hiro Segawa and Sachi Umino. Crunchyroll confirmed that they will stream it, and they describe the story:

Mixed up with another family’s child as a baby, high school student Umino Nagi is finally meeting his biological parents. On the day of their meeting, he happens to encounter Amano Erika, a high school student at a prestigious and wealthy girls school. At her request, he’s half-forced into pretending to be her boyfriend so she can avoid marrying her fiance….However, not only were they the babies who had been mixed up, they’re also engaged to each other! The loving parents of both families officially recognize their engagement, and the couple begins living together. Nagi is in love with his classmate Segawa Hiro, and Erika is determined to rebel against her father, so the couple agree not to get involved with each other. Love After World Domination

A romcom anime with a superhero setting, Love After World Domination is another interesting romance coming to the Spring 2022 season, and it was confirmed to begin in April. Studio Project No. 9 is in charge of the production, and you can watch the latest trailer:

Komi Can’t Communicate Season 2

Komi will continue her quest in season 2 of Komi Can’t Communicate and should arrive this spring, although it only has a planned April 2022 release date. Studio OLM was in charge of the production for the first season, and there’s yet to be more details about the sequel. You can watch the announcement trailer:

The following are not exactly romcoms, but they might still be worth checking out for fans of the genre.

Spy x Family


Another highly anticipated anime adaptation coming this spring, Spy x Family is not really the typical romcom as it focuses more on the comedy side, and it’s also set for an April 2022 release. WIT Studio and CloverWorks are collaborating on the production, and you can watch the latest trailer:

The Westalis Intelligence Services’ Eastern-Focused Division (WISE) sends their most talented spy, “Twilight,” on a top-secretmission to investigate the movements of Donovan Desmond, the chairman of Ostania’s National Unity Party, who is threatening peace efforts between the two nations.

This mission is known as “Operation Strix.”

It consists of “putting together a family in one week in order to infiltrate social gatherings organized by the elite school that Desmond’s son attends.”

“Twilight” takes on the identity of psychiatrist Loid Forger and starts looking for family members. But Anya, the daughter he adopts, turns out to have the ability to read people’s minds, while his wife, Yor, is an assassin! With it being in each of their own interests to keep these facts hidden, they start living together while concealing their true identities from one another.

World peace is now in the hands of this brand-new family as they embark on an adventure full of surprises.

Aharen-san wa Hakarenai (Aharen Is Indecipherable)

An adorable slice of life comedy that seems similar to My Senpai is Annoying, Aharen-san wa Hakarenai (Aharen Is Indecipherable) is also coming in April 2022. With animation by Felix Film, the cute anime will premiere on April 1. You can watch recently released trailer, which features the theme song by TrySail:

The synopsis:

Reina Aharen is a quiet, short girl who is not very good at measuring the distance between people. She’s also a bit awkward around people, even around Raido Matsuboshi who sites next to her in class. Date a Live IV (Season 4)

Finally, an anime that has both the romance and comedy tags but is not exactly a romcom, Date a Live IV (Season 4) is also set for the Spring 2022 anime season. The harem anime will be animated by GEEK TOYS, the studio which previously worked on the Date a Bullet movies. You can watch the latest trailer:
