The live-action movie adaptation of Teasing Master Takagi-san has released special promotional videos as well as a teaser visual. The movie is set to make its theatrical debut in Japan on May 31, 2024.
Mei Nagano and Fumiya Takahashi play the main characters Takagi and Nishikata respectively. Rikiya Imaizumi is directing the movie, with Tomoki Kanazawa, Jun Hagimori, and Rikiya Imaizumi on the screenplay. A live-action adaptation of the series was first confirmed in March 2023, but it was only in November of the same year when it was revealed that the live-action adaptation would take the movie route. For this adaptation, the story will follow Takagi and Nishikata’s reunion 10 years after graduating from middle school. It is also worth noting that the film is shot in Shodoshima, the original setting for the manga and anime series.
Teasing Master Takagi-san was a manga written and illustrated by Soichiro Yamamoto. It was first serialized in the Monthly Shonen Sunday Mini in June 2013 before being transferred to the Monthly Shonen Sunday in July 2016. It finally ended in October 2023 after a 10-year run. The manga franchise also sprang spin-offs titled Ashita wa Doyobi (2014), Koi ni Koisuru Yukari-chan (2017), and Karakai Jozu no (Moto) Takagi-san (2017). A fourth spin-off titled Karakai Jozu no Nishikata-san is set to start in the Monthly Shonen Sunday in November 2023.
Yen Press has licensed the main manga in English, describing the plot as:
Middle schooler Nishikata has had it with his classmate Takagi–the chronic teaser who sits nearby. Day in and day out, she comes after him with every sort of trick or prank. Even when he tries to get her back, she’s always one step ahead. But rest assured, it’s only the beginning. He’s not about to give up that easily in this battle of cunning and youth!
The series received an anime adaptation with three seasons. The first season aired from January to March 2018, the second one aired from July to September 2019, and the third season aired from January to March 2022. It also got an OVA back in July 2018, and an animated film adaption which premiered in June 2022.
