Orange Previews Main Characters for Leviathan at Anime Expo 2024

As part of the exciting announcements coming from this year’s Anime Expo, Orange shared an exclusive look into the previously announced Netflix series LEVIATHAN, their collaboration with Qubic Pictures. The announcement came during Orange’s Studio Unveiling Panel.

This first look debuted the series’ protagonists, Alek (Prince Aleksander) and Sharp (Deryn Sharp), and gave panel attendees a sneak peak at an exclusive work-in-progress sizzle reel, a preview of the story, and concept art for LEVIATHAN. The series is set to premiere exclusively on Netflix in 2025.

LEVIATHAN adapts the novel of the same name written by author Scott Westerfield and illustrated by Keith Thompson. The series is directed by Christophe Ferreira and Justin Leach serves as Executive Producer. Yoshihiro Watanabe and Katrina Minett serve as the series Producers. Music is by Nobuko Toda and Kazuma Jinnouchi alongside original songs by Joe Hisaishi.

The original novel was published in 2009 as the first part of a trilogy with the two sequels, Behemoth and Goliath, published in 2010 and 2011, respectively.

Orange describes the story:
In 1914, on the eve of war, a fugitive prince and a girl in disguise meet aboard a bioengineered airship, the HMS Leviathan, and change the course of history. Prince Aleksander, would-be heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne, is on the run. Deryn Sharp is a commoner, disguised as a boy in the British Air Service. As World War I begins to erupt, Alek and Deryn’s paths cross in the most unexpected way…taking them on a fantastical, around-the-world adventure that will change both their lives forever.

The series aims to combine elements of both history and fantasy to create a unique world filled with alternative technologies and interesting twists on our actual reality.
