The long-awaited anime adaptation of Junji Ito’s Uzumaki revealed English dub cast details earlier today. The anime is slated to air sometime this year. According to a recent interview with the Japan Times, the first of four episodes is completed and it lives up to Ito’s expectations. With the announcement of English dub, the cast for Uzumaki anime now includes:
- Uki Satake / Abby Trott as Kirie Goshima
- Shin-ichiro Miki / Robbie Daymond as Shuichi Saito
- Mariya Ise / Christina Vee as Azami Kurotani
- Toshio Furukawa / Doug Stone as Kirie’s Dad
- Mika Doi / Mona Marshall as Shuichi’s Mom
- Takashi Matsuyama / Aaron LaPlante as Shuichi’s Dad
- Katsutoshi Matsuzaki / Max Mittleman as Katayama
- Ami Fukushima as Shiho
- Wataru Hatano as Okada
Production I.G. (USA) and Adult Swim are producing the Uzumaki anime, which will be animated by studio Drive. Hiroshi Nagahama is directing and Colin Stetson is composing the music. The anime adaptation was initially slated to premiere in October of 2022 but was delayed in order to improve the quality and give justice to the original work. The manga by Junji was first published in 1998. It consists of 3 volumes, with 19 chapters. Viz Media licensed the manga for the English market.
Uzumaki synopsis:
A mysterious spiral shape, Uzumaki, haunts the small Japanese coastal town. Citizens suddenly become attracted to spiral-shaped objects. Shuichi Saito’s father is one of them. He becomes increasingly obsessed with spirals – snails, whirlpools, as well as decorations on pottery. This by itself isn’t a huge problem, but something more sinister is lurking. When his dead body is found positioned in a spiral shape, the town must prepare for the worst…
