A Peek Into the Mieruko-Chan Live-Action
Tomoki Izumi met the announcement of the Mieruko-chan live-action film’s director and main actress with excitement. The author, a fan of director Yoshihiro Nakamura, stated they have high expectations knowing their work will be adapted by such a prestigious filmmaker. The author also mentioned that Nanoka was the perfect fit for Miko.
While the full cast, production team, and air date have yet to be released, there are a few comments by Yoshiro Nakamura and Nanoka Hara. Yoshiro explained that his interest in the project sparked during the COVID-19 pandemic when he received a copy of the manga. Its flawless blend of horror and comedy instantly drew him to the work. He stated that the Mieruko-chan live-action film will prove to be a challenge for him to strike the perfect balance between horror and comedy, but he promises a film “unlike anything anyone’s seen before.”
Nanoka expressed interest in the source material, saying that the setting and plot were original and highly interesting. She took delight in having to mute her acting and always be cool and composed, even in the face of ever-mounting horrors.
What’s Mieruko-Chan About?
Mieruko-chan tells the story of Miko Yotsuya, a normal high school girl who, much to her horror, is one day able to see spirits. But instead of reacting to the macabre sights around her, she decides the best course of action is to ignore them. And so she pretends to live the life she’s always had, as she wholeheartedly pretends that all is well in the world.
Kadokawa’s ComicWalker originally serialized the manga online, and Kadokawa Shoten has been publishing it since April 2019. As of writing, the manga boasts ten tankobon volumes. Yen Press published the manga in the US. Studio Passione animated the anime adaptation of the show, which aired as part of the 2021 fall season. Yuki Ogawa directed the anime with Takahiro Majima serving as assistant director. The main vocal cast for the anime consists of:
- Sora Amamiya as Miko Yotsuya
- Kaede Hondo as Hana Yurikawa
