Tadashi Kubo writes the The Water Magician (Mizuzokusei no Mahotsukai) light novel series, which features illustrations by Hana Amano. Kubo originally began publishing it on the Shosetsuka ni Naro website in April 2020, while TO Books acquired it and began publishing the print version in March 2021. You can read the author’s comment regarding the anime adaptation below:

Congratulations on the anime adaptation! Thank you very much!

Congratulations to my work, The Water Magician, for growing to the point of getting an anime adaptation. To all the readers who have supported it up to this point and to all the people who made the anime possible—thank you so much.

Ryo and Abel, who have been moving and speaking in my head all this time, will now come to life in front of everyone… How could I not be excited for this? I am truly happy to be able to watch them with all of you.

There is also manga adaptation by Bokutengo, which began serialization in September 20, 2021.

J-Novel Club licensed both the novel and manga in English. The story follows Ryo, a young man who dies and gets reincarnated in another world with an affinity for water magic. He trains on his own, slowly becoming one of the most powerful mages in the world due to the hidden skill “Ageless.” He then meets Abel, a genius swordsman, and the two head towards becoming key figures that shape the world.
