After she hears his story, she learns that Rio wrote the letter to celebrate his father’s birthday, but his father’s birthday is today and he is working alone in the Kanto region.

The anime’s theme song, “Paper Airplane,” will be performed by suis from Yorushika, with music composed by Evan Call, who previously also worked on anime like Violet Evergarden, My Happy Marriage, and Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End. Evan Call has composed not only the theme song but also the full soundtrack for the anime. We recently had the amazing opportunity to speak with Evan Call and talk about his career. He commented on the new Pokémon anime:
“I’ve loved Pokémon since I was a child—I collected cards, played the games, and never missed an episode of the anime.
When I received this offer, I was truly thrilled. It was also a surprise because I had just been playing Pokémon Scarlet last year and rewatching the Pokémon anime at the time.
As I immersed myself in the theme, I naturally felt a deep connection between my musical style and the story. I started composing right away.
To me, Pokémon has always been about friendship and helping each other, and Dragonite and the Mailman beautifully captures that essence. This is especially true in the insert song performed by suis.
With a focus on the sense of adventure, I poured my heart into the music, and I consider it one of my greatest honors to be part of this project.”
