From Bureaucrat to Villainess: Dad’s Been Reincarnated anime revealed the special insert song “The Galaxy Express 999” featured in Episode 9 instead of the usual ending. “The Galaxy Express 999” is an opening song from a 1978 anime which shares its name.

Originally performed by Godiego, this new version was covered by the anime’s main character Kenzaburo Tondabayashi (Dad, voiced by Kazuhiko Inoue) and Grace Auverne (voiced by MAO). Interestingly, Kazuhiko Inoue was also part of the voice cast for Galaxy Express 999, where he voiced Geronimo.

Galaxy Express 999 is an old space opera anime that aired between 1978-1981, based on a popular manga of the same name. Despite its age, it still retains a dedicated fanbase. It is available for streaming on Crunchyroll, and they describe the plot as follows:
In a distant future, Tetsuro a human boy who wants his body replaced with a robotic one. This is possible, but to do so he has to reach the Immortal Planet onboard the space train Galaxy Express 999.

From Bureaucrat to Villainess: Dad’s Been Reincarnated is an ongoing anime streaming on HIDIVE. They describe the overall synopsis as simply “A 52-year-old civil servant is reborn as the villainess of his daughter’s favorite video game after being struck by a car”. Given the popularity of Galaxy Express 999 in the 80s in Japan, it makes sense for the 52-year-old main character to whip out the beloved opening when he needs to sing during a particular trial in Episode 9.

The main staff for the From Bureaucrat to Villainess: Dad’s Been Reincarnated anime includes director Tetsuya Takeuchi, series composition by Shingo Irie, and character design by Haruka Matsunae.

Michiro Ueyama writes and draws the Akuyaku Reijou Tensei Ojisan (also known as The Middle-Aged Man that Reincarnated as a Villainess) manga series. It has been serialized in Shonen Gahosha’s Young King Ours GH seinen magazine since March 2020.
