The Apothecary Diaries Creator Teases ‘Awkward’ Family Viewing for Upcoming Anime Episodes

Written by Chike Nwaenie

The Apothecary Diaries creator Natsu Hyuga revealed the awkwardness she anticipates for the upcoming episodes of the anime series, set to stream on Crunchyroll beginning March 21, 2025. In a post to X (formerly Twitter), Hyuga said:
While there’s talk about awkwardness when watching the upcoming Apothecary episodes with family, what’ll be most awkward is me in real-time with my own family.

X post from The Apothecary Diaries creator, Natsu Hyuga.

Writer Yosuke Saeki, known for series like the Lupin III manga spinoff Neighbor World Princess and the Grimoire Reference light novel, replied to the post, telling Hyuga to be strong, to which she replied, “My sister starts giving explanations and such to my grandpa, you know? (He doesn’t really understand things)

Based on the first previews for the upcoming The Apothecary Diaries Season 2, Episode 11 (Episode 35 overall), it teases Maomao accompanying Jinshi, alongside Gaoshun and his son Basen, both of whom serve Jinshi. Maomao and Jinshi head to a cave, and then Jinshi appears to be abducting (or rescuing) Maomao, before she ends up on top of him.

There’s also something to do with a frog. Any of those moments could refer to the awkwardness she speaks of, but novel and manga readers know best, and can’t wait for you to find out.

Crunchyroll streams both seasons of The Apothecary Diaries in English subbed and dubbed, describing the series:
Maomao lived a peaceful life with her apothecary father. Until one day, she’s sold as a lowly servant to the emperor’s palace. But she wasn’t meant for a compliant life among royalty. So when imperial heirs fall ill, she decides to step in and find a cure! This catches the eye of Jinshi, a handsome palace official who promotes her. Now, she’s making a name for herself solving medical mysteries!
