Eisen Flügel is originally a Japanese light novel written by Gen Urobuchi with illustrations by Higashiguchi Chuo. It was released in two volumes by Shogakukan’s Gagaga Bunko imprint in 2009. A manga adaptation, drawn by Anno Nanakamado, ran from 2016 to 2018.
The story follows a skilled pilot named Karl Schnitz in a world where dragons still rule the skies. In the Republic of Sylvana, which is still recovering from a recent war, humans are starting to build powerful aircraft to challenge the dragons’ dominance.
Karl flies the Blitzvogel, the world’s first jet-engine plane, and sets out to do the impossible, to fly faster than the fastest dragon, the Kaiserdrachen (Emperor Dragon). It’s a story about a man pursuing freedom and his dream.
