The popular 86–EIGHTY-SIX light novel by Asato Asato (story), Shirabii (art), and I-IV (mechanical design) will enter its final arc with the release of Volume 14, titled “Paint It Black”. The 328-page volume will be released in Japan on September 10, 2025.

Publisher ASCII Media Works’ Dengeki Bunko imprint confirmed 86–EIGHTY-SIX‘s nearing conclusion in its Volume 14 tagline, “It is the return of despair, but even still, they——Volume 14 storms into its final arc!” The series has been published since February 2017, receiving a now-canceled manga adaptation illustrated by Motoki Yoshihara.
86–EIGHTY-SIX later received a two-cour anime adaptation directed by Toshimasa Ishii at A-1 Pictures. The anime remains among the most requested titles to return for a sequel. Crunchyroll streams the anime in 15 languages. Yen Press licensed the light novel in English, describing it:
