The production committee behind the DAN DA DAN anime has released an official apology following controversy regarding the Episode 18 insert song “Hunting Soul.” The track drew attention for its similarities to the music of YOSHIKI and X JAPAN, causing concern from fans and even from YOSHIKI himself.
In the statement, the committee explains that the piece was created as a way to capture the same intensity and passion that YOSHIKI and X JAPAN represent, aiming to elevate the anime’s dramatic impact. However, the team admitted that they failed to give YOSHIKI and his group prior notice, acknowledging that this oversight caused unnecessary concern.
The committee emphasized that discussions regarding rights and permissions are already underway with the relevant parties. They also confirmed that direct conversations with YOSHIKI have taken place, and that they are exploring opportunities for creative collaboration in the future.
The statement closes with an apology directed at YOSHIKI, X JAPAN, their fans, as well as DAN DA DAN fans and everyone else involved, asking for continued support as the anime moves forward. You can read the full statement below.
We sincerely apologize for causing concern regarding the song “Hunting Soul” featured in the TV anime DAN DA DAN.
This song was created with the intention of expressing, within the anime, the kind of passion we deeply respect in YOSHIKI and X JAPAN. We aimed for a musical performance that would match the story and scenes of DAN DA DAN, and further raise the quality of the work.
However, in this case, we regret that we failed to provide sufficient explanation in advance to YOSHIKI and X JAPAN, and we sincerely apologize for causing concern. With regard to the rights issues, we are engaged in constructive discussions with the relevant parties.
We have already spoken directly with YOSHIKI regarding this matter, and we are taking this opportunity to consider creative collaborations for the future.
To YOSHIKI, X JAPAN, their fans, DAN DA DAN fans, and everyone involved, we once again sincerely apologize for the concern we have caused. We humbly ask for your continued warm support for this work going forward.
This apology follows earlier developments, including the removal of “Hunting Soul” from multiple Japanese streaming platforms due to the copyright concerns.
