HoYoverse will officially release Genshin Impact Version Luna IV: “A Traveler on a Winter’s Night” on January 14, 2026. The update will add new characters Columbina and Zibai, continue the main storyline in Nod-Krai, expand the region north into Piramida, and reintroduce the annual Lantern Rite event in Liyue.

New Characters and Combat Mechanics

Columbina, introduced as the “Moon Maiden,” joins the roster as a 5-star Hydro Catalyst user focused on a new elemental system called Lunar Reactions. Her kit enables off-field support with effects that vary depending on the reaction type, such as additional strikes, resource generation, and new attack types tied to the Lunar-Crystallize mechanic. She can also revive a fallen teammate once during the Nod-Krai storyline.

Lunar-Crystallize is a new reaction triggered when Geo meets Hydro. It summons Moondrift projectiles and culminates in Moondrift Harmony, a Geo burst attack with CRIT potential. This mechanic is also central to Zibai, the 5-star Geo Sword user described in-game as the “White Horse Adeptus.” Zibai builds energy to unleash high-frequency Lunar-Crystallize attacks, increasing both rate and damage as more reactions are triggered.

Story Progression in Nod-Krai

Version Luna IV will also advance the Archon Quest, focusing on Il Dottore’s experiments with the Moon Marrows. Players who complete the quest unlock a new outfit for the Traveler. The expansion also introduces Piramida, headquarters of the Lightkeepers, and includes a new World Quest involving the character Illuga and the ongoing conflict with the Wild Hunt.

Event Schedule and Wish Banners

The update splits its Event Wishes into two phases:

  • Phase 1: Columbina (5★), Ineffa (rerun)
  • Phase 2: Zibai (5★), Illuga (4★), Neuvillette (rerun)

A new outfit for Neuvillette will be available in the shop at a discounted price for a limited time.

Lantern Rite and Seasonal Content

This year’s Lantern Rite will be centered on the celestial theme of Zhanzhu the Moon-Devourer and include new story content featuring Zibai. Activities include placing Xiao Lanterns around Liyue Harbor, collecting Fortune Coins from special trees to exchange for event rewards, and a selection of mini-games. Players will receive:

  • 1,600 Primogems via in-game mail
  • 10 Intertwined Fates from a login bonus
  • A free 4-star Liyue character
  • Yaoyao’s new outfit (via event)
  • A horse mascot cosmetic (via mail)

The update also introduces:

  • A new Classic Mode in Miliastra Wonderland, allowing stage performances with selected characters
  • A Colorful Surprise Box from the Craftspeople for unlocking extra gameplay
  • A cross-platform story continuation available via Advance Screening, allowing immediate access to new quests
