Vinland Saga series creator Makoto Yukimura has addressed recent rumors surrounding a potential Season 3 of the anime adaptation. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the author acknowledged the circulating claims but clarified that, at present, he has received no official information regarding the production of Season 3 himself.
In a post shared on X, Yukimura thanked fans for their continued support before commenting on the speculation. He explained that while he had become aware of rumors suggesting Season 3 is currently in production, no such details have been communicated to him. He added that he hopes the rumors turn out to be true, while also noting the technical challenges that further adaptation could bring, such as animating Hild’s crossbow.
Despite the lack of confirmation, Yukimura expressed appreciation for the enthusiasm surrounding the series. He said that the rumors likely appeared due to a large number of fans hoping to see the story continue. He also shared that he personally hopes for a third season as well.
In a follow-up post, Yukimura also joked that he currently has some free time (as the manga ended in July 2025) and would even be willing to help at the production site if needed, saying that he could assist with tasks as small as buying boxed lunches.
As of now, no official announcement regarding Vinland Saga Season 3 has been made by the production committee or animation studios involved. The rumor appeared after an interview from January 2025 surfaced.
Makoto Yukimura first started serialization of Vinland Saga in Weekly Shonen Magazine in April 2005, while it later transitioned to Monthly Afternoon. It released its final volume in September 2025.
The manga was adapted into an anime, with the first season airing in 2019 with WIT Studio behind the animation. The second season, which premiered in 2023, saw MAPPA take over the production with the same core staff, continuing the story for its less action-packed/more introspective tone focusing on Thorfinn’s character development. Both Crunchyroll and Netflix are streaming the anime.
The story follows Thorfinn, a young Viking warrior who initially seeks revenge against Askeladd, the man who killed his father. As he faces many battles and conflict while training and challenging Askeladd, Thorfinn eventually questions his purpose and the true meaning of being a warrior that his father had talked about. Along the way, he dreams of finding the peaceful land called Vinland that his father also spoke about, and he hopes to leave behind the violence of his past and build a better future.
