HoYoverse has announced that Genshin Impact Version Luna V, titled “Song of the Welkin Moon: Variation — Homeward, He Who Caught the Wind,” will launch on February 25, bringing players back to Mondstadt while introducing Varka as a new playable 5-star character. Version IV previously launched on January 14.
The update centers on a return to the region where many players first began their journey. Mondstadt will have a new event led by the Knights of Favonius, featuring several activities that revisit earlier moments from the game’s story through different visuals and challenges. You can watch the trailer below.
Varka, long referenced throughout Mondstadt’s storyline as the Grand Master of the Knights of Favonius and Knight of Boreas, will now make his official debut as a playable character. He joins as a 5-star Anemo claymore wielder with a dual-wield combat style. His kit allows him to deal two types of Elemental damage simultaneously.
His Elemental Skill enhances Normal Attacks and converts the damage type of his right-hand claymore depending on teammates’ elements, shifting between Pyro, Hydro, Electro, or Cryo, while his left-hand weapon continues to deal Anemo damage. Additional enhanced attacks allow him to trigger special skills or a stamina-free Charged Attack, with a “Hexerei” effect enabling more frequent activations of these abilities.
Varka’s Story Quest will also be available, showing a new crisis involving the Great Wolf King of the North and a Wild Hunt calamity. After defeating a Wolf Spirit fragment in battle, players will be able to unlock a new weapon appearance for both of his weapons at no cost.
In the first phase of Event Wishes, Varka will appear alongside a rerun of Flins. The second phase will feature Skirk and Escoffier. The Mondstadt-themed Chronicled Wish will also return in this update.
The main event will include “Echoes of Memory,” where players will revisit familiar areas and use the Spotter Kamera to identify subtle differences in scenes from earlier adventures. Additional activities include beverage crafting tailored to specific characters, Gliding and Combat Challenges, and a system where players can summon Knight Shadows to break enemy defenses. Completing event objectives will reward a crystal ball–inspired Catalyst weapon appearance, “Phantasmal Gift: Star Omen.”
Several mini-games will also be part of the update, including a Kamera challenge through Natlan, Fontaine, and Sumeru; a strategic defense mode focused on wave-based combat; and updates to Travelers’ Tales.
In Miliastra Wonderland, a new voice feature will launch alongside gameplay built around it. Players can also obtain a cosmetic Manekin/Manekina set titled “Owl Envoy” through in-game events.
Genshin Impact Version Luna V will be available on PlayStation, Xbox, PC, Android, and iOS, with cross-progression and co-op support.
